I know Emerson is sometimes redundant, but to me he was trying to tell us the importance of the horizon. When he was writing about who owns what property, he mentions a property in the horizon which no man has. Somewhere in the distance is a side on earth that belongs to itself. In the tranquil landscape, and especially in the distant line of the horizon, man beholds somewhat as beautiful as his own nature.
